Jessica promised to share lessons learned with UN YAG members to inform their thinking when advising the UNCT on climate action issues.
Jessica Brima Sesay, the Secretary-General of the UN in Sierra Leone Country Team (UNCT) Youth Advisory Group ( YAG), has expressed delight over her selection to participate in this year’s Africa Climate Summit that will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, from September 4th to September 6th. “Receiving that email confirming my selection was a dream come true,” she revealed.
Jessica, a feminist, gender activist, community climate action champion and environmental activist, got her call through an application she submitted to the African Union Climate Action Innovator Hub. She described the application process as very intensive and that it took her more than a week to put together her findings, making her application stand out.
Her acceptance, she says, would allow her and her fellow participants to showcase a diverse range of the bold, innovative climate actions taking place across the continent that align with the specific ambitions and goals of the recently adopted African Union Climate Change and Resilient Development Strategy (2022-2032).
“I will be presenting my innovative idea on mitigation, adaptation and climate Smart Agriculture at the Summit,” Jessica, the Founder and Executive Director of Youth Partnership for Climate Action and Sustainable Agriculture (YPCASA) and the head of Program Global Youth Counterpart for Sustainable Development (GYC) Sierra Leone disclosed.
On her return from the Summit, Jessica promised to share lessons learned with UN YAG members to inform their thinking when advising the UNCT on climate action issues.
The Africa Climate Summit will focus on a number of key areas, including adaptation, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and climate finance. Participants will share their experiences, best practices, and strategies for addressing climate change and will work towards developing a roadmap for African countries to achieve their climate goals.
